Space Coast Early Intervention Center Receives $200,000 Challenge Grant From Harris Corporation
On January 20, 2006, the Space Coast Early Intervention Center (SCEIC) announced that it had received a "challenge grant" established by Harris Corporation to help jump-start the Center's capital campaign. The Harris Challenge grant supports SCEIC's $2.5 million capital campaign to construct a new 15,000 square-foot preschool building on property recently acquired on Dairy Road in Melbourne, Florida. The challenge grant from the Harris Foundation will match private and other SCEIC capital fund contributions, dollar-for-dollar up to $200,000. "We hope that this challenge grant encourages area businesses and community leaders to support the Space Coast Early Intervention Center and its efforts to expand facilities and services to the community," said Howard L. Lance, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Harris Corporation. "The Center has an important mission to insure that all children are given an opportunity to reach their full potential. We are delighted to offer a dollar-for-dollar match program to support this vital community organization." "Harris has once again demonstrated their significant charitable support for the local community," said Mark Thompson, SCEIC building campaign chairman. "Their $200,000 matching grant to the school has launched our capital campaign and will be the catalyst for successfully completing our building." Space Coast Early Intervention Center is a nationally recognized, non-profit therapeutic preschool for children with and without special needs. At SCEIC, we believe that children with and without developmental delays learning side-by-side allows all children to develop friendships, become leaders and role models, and learn acceptance and diversity. |
